Guitar Chords - Dm & F

The Dm and F chords have gotten the bad rep for being
the "hard" basic guitar chords. Therefore they were not included
in the first basic guitar chords lesson. This does not mean that they
are second class guitar chord citizens ...but you are more likely
to find the other 7 chords more often (in the most basic rock
and folk tunes). Don't forsake your Dm and F chords, they will
serve you well.
Dm Guitar Chord

The Dm chord has 2 commonly used fingerings. Although there
are plenty of guitar players that play this chord with the
3rd finger (red fingering), here are a couple of reasons
that I suggest using the 4th finger instead (black fingering).
-
There is only one ligament that connects
your 2nd and 3rd finger. Therefore stretching between
these fingers not only is more difficult, but puts extra
stress on your hand.
- There are times when you are going to use your 3rd finger
to play other notes in the context of a Dm chord, like
the chords below.
